Inclusive Organic CrowdFarm in The Wake of Climate Change

Inclusive Organic CrowdFarm in The Wake of Climate Change

Inclusive organic startup agribusiness that practices and promotes CrowdFarm model of farming.

Long Description

Migo Ranch & Farms is an organic startup business operating in Kenya.

The business adopts the Crowdfarm model of farming. This involves the recruitment and training of rural-based peasant farmers in three critical areas;

The training in organic farming introduces the farmers to the sustainable ways of producing vegetables without the use of synthetic fertilizers and chemical pesticides. Organic farming techniques also involve less use of water, which is a major challenge in the wake of climate change.

Training in vermiculture introduces and equips the farmers with the techniques of farming red earth worms. The farmers, therefore, acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to produce natural fertilizer (vermicompost and worm tea) for use on their farms.

The farmers are also trained in herbal gardening. This equips them with the knowledge and skills to produce and formulate natural pesticides (bio-pesticides) that they use on their vegetables.

In addition to the vegetable produce from the business’s own organic farm, the business also buys all the vegetables produced by the trained farmers.

All the produce is marketed and sold by the business to target customers that include hospitals, hotels/restaurants, boarding schools and to members of the public through farmer markets.
