PlasticAr: A house for all

PlasticAr: A house for all

PlasticAr is a new concept introduced in respond to the needs of climate refugees through an innovative recycling system that allows to create 100% flexible, self-built and green social neighborhoods.

Long Description

Millions of people around the world will become climate refugees in the next few years, and
they will need new homes to live in.
We intend to create a new home for them starting a social housing project that will offer
alternative answers to important issues : a home for climate migrants, a home for the poor,
help in waste management processes, development of environmental awareness for the
communities involved.
Starting from architect Alejandro Aravena’s notion that identifies scale, speed and scarcity
as fundamental factors in urban growth problem-solving, we have conceived an
expandable, easy-to-produce housing module, made of recycled plastic to create 100%
flexible, self-built and green social neighborhoods.
Through community participation and an alternative recycling system, we will collect the raw
material : urban gathering-centers will be disposed all over the city and plastic of different
kinds will be compiled in recycled containers. Responding to SCARCITY.
Through a simple procedure (tested on a small scale) plastic will be transformed into
modular bricks and pieces.
The housing module has been conceived in order to make the production as simple as
possible : only five types of pieces will be used to build our social homes.
Pieces are highly adaptable, easy-to-use and easy-to-produce, made of an available and
affordable material, whose assemblies need no cement. Responding to SPEED.
The module allows expansion over time and it can be built in two or three stages : survival
(18m2 ), consolidation (27m2 ) and wellness (36m2 ). Responding to SCALE.
