The Future of Meat

The Future of Meat is a video installation which aims to inform people about the different ways our future could unfold with regard to meat consumption. Walk through the five rooms of the installation, each one with its own fictional film, and you will experience five possible future scenarios: Insect meat, Laboratory meat, Less & local, No Meat (soy, seitan, lupine, etc.), Doing nothing. After visiting the installation, you will have the opportunity to choose your favourite scenario. Our aim is to elevate the project of The Future of Meat and develop it further into educational material that can be used for school kids to learn about meat consumption in a playful manner.

Long Description

The Future of Meat has been shown on 13 different locations in four countries and has had a deep effect on the visitors. Meat consumption was suddenly a topic everyone could openly talk about because people looked into the future of meat consumption collectively. It has been a very inspiring experience to show the installation to various groups of people but now we want to elevate the project to a higher level so that it reaches more people and thus has a higher impact. Together with colleagues from Schuttelaar & Partners and other partnered initiatives we want to create educational material based on the video installation, inviting young people to think about the future of meat and to discover which scenario would be most appealing to them. By offering a half year project to schools, kids can gain a deep understanding of alternative scenarios around meat eating, they can create their very own recipes and explore the consequences of their diet. This way, kids can be introduced to this topic in a playful manner and can take the task of discovering meat alternatives in a positive way. Schuttelaar & Partners has a lot of experience on the topics of nudging, healthy lifestyle for children and food & health campaigns and I have done multiple designer projects with school kids as a target group.
