A GAME AGAINST FLOODING

A GAME AGAINST FLOODING

This game builds the awareness of inhabitants to adaptive solutions against flooding. They choose cards to collect and re-use the water, but also to limit its pollution individually and together.

Long Description

4 teams play 4 families living in the same urban block. Every family lives in a small house with its small courtyard that is flooded every year.
Players win the game together if they find one association of solutions that allows them to not be flooded. The game is played in 4 rounds.
In the first round, each team draws two personal solutions against flooding. Their solutions are integrated in the set of existing solutions.
In the second round, they choose individual adaptive solutions like pile dwelling, floating houses, lifted houses but also solutions to store and re-use the water. Each family has to choose 2 solutions to place on the board. Players can discuss about their choices.
In the third round, they choose to replace or not cards on the board by collective adaptive solutions such as collective housings with water storage roofs, collective garden or collective rain container. To win, they have to create space for water in their courtyard.
While in the previous rounds, the teams had to choose one association of solutions to not be flooded, in the last round they have to choose an action card to improve the water quality. The action cards show how the players can profit from the water or from the waste. Regarding their solutions and business choices, players are building a resilient city.
