An innovative organic solution on disaster management that promotes the humanitarian side and safety for those affected.
Long Description
The idea of shelter is a concept that comes easy for many of us, until we think of those who are in need of it. During the first semester of 2017 China was hit by phenomenal events that left 100,000 collapsed or severe damaged buildings and 1 million residents reallocated from their homes. In cities the government adapted schools, hospitals and halls to host the victims, whilst in rural areas low-quality provisional shelter was provided.
BamRoofCo is a project that gathers cutting-edge technology and natural resources to bind them in an efficient and reliable simple-housing modular design. It tackles the well-known issues of applying bamboo poles as structural elements, enhancing the properties of this eco-friendly material. The modular system design is based on reverse-engineering of bamboo poles by the application of 3D scanning, parametric design and robotic-aided fabrication.
The system offers an organic structure that can address the needs of an ever-changing shelter camp, not just to create individual refuges, but a semi-permanent entity with shared spaces that improves the quality of life of its occupants during their stay. BamRoofCo embodies the humanitarian care spirit by bringing people together that are facing a difficult situation.
