Hacker Bomb is a water pumping device to help people transfer collected water from one point to another in a safe and effortless way.
Long Description
The droughts are a burning issue that calls for quick action and creative solutions to tackle the problem. By doing research, workshops and discussions, we found out that there are many systems to collect water available in the market, but there was no easy and cheap solution to transport huge amounts of water for further use. From this insight we came up with the ‘Bomba Hacker’. The goal was to design a low cost water pump solution and that guided us to select cheap and easy-to-find parts. Starting with hacking parts from a washing machine like the motor and some other tubes and small components from elsewhere, the final product cost was $19 USD. This price can be even lower if people use second hand parts or parts taken from devices they own, that have stopped functioning. The result is a small device, easy to carry, that helps transport water inside people’s homes. With this mobility, the collected water could be used across different tasks, helping people use the water for cleaning different areas, flushing toilets or simply helping the transfer of water between containers. Also the water pumping device has all the instructions hosted in the website, so anyone can make it at home and even hack it further by adding special functionalities. More than a water pump solution, we believe that this project can be something bigger. We want to raise awareness among people by creating a movement where everyone can be empowered to design new solutions for water crisis.
