This Project Proposal provides a summary of needs and opportunities for value addition and market development for Organic agricultural commodities. Our goals are to venture into opportunities for value addition and market development for agricultural commodities, and to identify potential collaborators on future efforts in the region including local institutions and/or individual researchers including: universities, national research institutions, nongovernmental organizations and private entrepreneurs such as women/youth farmer groups.
Long Description
We are currently working on creating an organic food bank value chain to help the vulnerable, needy, abandoned, destitute, orphaned and physically challenged. We are working together to enhance the lives of children, women and elderly. We are targeting more than 1,800,000 children and vulnerable target groups to be fed by the value added nutritious flour and other nutritional surplus products. Also we are supporting small scale farmers on providing low cost solar powered pump irrigation kits. We aim to provide more than 1800 underprivileged Kenyan children across Bungoma County with access to Education and Economic support to benefit from our Cooperate Social Responsibility (CRS) policy. We have identified more than 3850 small scale farmers who need capacity building in sustainable Agriculture, organic food banking for value chain, trainers of trainees among others. we are working through a multi-stakeholder, participatory, inter-disciplinary, pro-poor and gender-sensitive approach, activities undertaken in this framework span from seed selection and enhancing cultivation, post-harvest, food bank, value addition, marketing to surveying, collecting and conserving genetic diversity/Educational. We are also looking forward to providing 300 solar powered Mist and Drip irrigators on their quarter farm as a piloting project towards practical demonstrations, organic farming training for value chain as income generating project for the house hold as our core producers for raw materials needed by JABEZ. Upon successful completion of this project we shall go ahead and also empower and support the remaining 2550 pilot farmers to upgrade into the system.
