The UN-SUI, floating bamboo housing, is the future for Asia!
Long Description
Nowadays, climate change has become a serious global issue leading every continent to face natural disasters. Water issues like heavy rains, rising of the sealevel, tsunamis and sinking cities have become our current challenge. In Asia, most of the houses are struggling with floodings. This situation has huge negative social and economical impacts. As an anwser to what design can do challenge, we propose a floating bamboo unit as a temporary solution for the housing and water problem in Asia.
Instead of resisting to nature forces, we decided to live with this current situation by adapting our housing and lifestyle. This is why, we wanted to work with nature and have less impact as possible:
-The shape of our design was inspired by boats to make it float and to have a minimized wind exposure.
-Sustainability and working with local materials was our priority. Therefore, we used bamboo for its various qualities.
This residential dwelling meets the basic living needs. It consists of a living room, kitchen, one sleeping room and a bathroom. This bamboo unit will be assembled using minimal and local components. In the basement, there are some water reservoirs to store for further usage. This eco-friendly bamboo unit is designed with the principles of feng shui to have a harmonious and sustainable environment.
